About the position

The Senior Manager of Human Resources & Labor Relations at Carpenter Technology Corporation is responsible for leading the HR strategy for the Latrobe Operations. This role involves managing the HR department, overseeing multiple locations, and ensuring effective communication and positive relationships with employees to enhance engagement and retention. The position also includes overseeing labor relations, coaching site leaders, managing investigations and employee complaints, and fostering a culture of safety and responsibility within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Human Resource strategy for Carpenter's Latrobe Operations.
  • Manage the day-to-day Human Resources department supporting both P&M and Salaried workforce.
  • Oversee HR programs, policies, and procedures across multiple locations.
  • Maintain good communication and a positive relationship with employees to promote engagement and retention.
  • Oversee the Labor Relations function for the Latrobe facility.
  • Coach and counsel site leaders and employees on workplace issues and conflicts.
  • Manage investigations, employee complaints, problem resolution, and exit interviews.
  • Administer the location Corrective Performance System and Administration.
  • Monitor workforce engagement, morale, and organized labor interest.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing HR team and establish KPIs.
  • Foster a culture of safety and responsibility within the organization.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership on communications impacting the workforce.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, business, management, or labor relations; Master's Degree is highly preferred.
  • 15+ years of work experience in Human Resources; 10+ years in labor relations.
  • Experience in Contract/CBA negotiations; lead negotiator preferred.
  • Professional depth in core HR practice areas including employee relations, staffing, and strategic workforce planning.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing or engineering-oriented environments.
  • Experience with data-driven decisions and strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in independent, self-starter roles.
  • Knowledge of value-added HR products and services.
  • Awareness of legal issues affecting the human resource function.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve group goals.
  • Significant executive presence and media savvy.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and support information sharing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with innovative HR practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of systems to monitor quality of work outputs and processes.
