About the position

The Senior Manager of Marketing Activation Sciences is a pivotal role within General Motors, focusing on the methodology and practice of targeting prospective vehicle audiences. This position is primarily remote, but candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of Austin, TX, Roswell, GA, or Warren, MI are expected to report to the office at least three times a week. The role may also be eligible for relocation benefits, making it accessible for a wider range of applicants. In this capacity, the Senior Manager will serve as the internal expert on advanced targeting methodologies, integrating first-party and third-party data sources, and onboarding identity resolution services. The individual will possess a deep understanding of data privacy issues, marketing technology concepts, and demand generation tactics. This leader will collaborate closely with stakeholders from various vehicle brands and the Performance Driven Marketing team to ensure that proposed methods are accepted by the business, performance evaluations are objective, and audience activations are optimized to drive sales. As a leader with a strong technical background, the Senior Manager will oversee a team of practitioners, drawing insights and creating scalable data products and models that identify effective targeting and activations with high return on investment. This will involve hypothesis testing, prototyping, and experimentation, with a focus on delivering consumer-centric, prescriptive solutions that enable GM to remain proactive in the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). This global role emphasizes analytics partnership and strategy, positioning the Senior Manager as an ambassador for the Enterprise Data, Analytics, and Insights team. The individual will work to democratize data and decision-making across the organization, leading a team while fostering their growth through education, coaching, and mentorship. The Senior Manager will balance technical leadership with storytelling and strategic focus, influencing peers and leaders to drive revenue growth effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Possess contextual business knowledge and functional domain expertise in the advertising and media space, demonstrating the ability to use data, analytics, and insights to add revenue and business-impacting value.
  • Own a strategic roadmap with executable outcomes to provide business value and impact.
  • Exhibit exceptional stakeholder management skills, prioritizing requests and moving them from curiosity to realized data products, insights, and solutions.
  • Map data skills, techniques, and tools to business problems effectively.
  • Collaborate with product owners and teammates to develop requirements definitions.
  • Encourage a culture of constrained curiosity, asking why, and suggesting experimentation to drive incremental impact.
  • Tell succinct, data-driven stories tailored to a wide range of stakeholders, from analysts to senior executives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team capable of tackling diverse business problems, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and allocating resources accordingly.
  • Ensure high delivery quality through the creation of internal structures and frameworks to manage accountability and develop staff.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience in analytics, data science, or quantitative insights in an enterprise setting.
  • 5+ years working with a marketing/media team on shared objectives.
  • 2+ years of experience successfully leading technical teams or work.
  • Ability to evaluate the big picture and solve business problems rather than focusing solely on metrics.
  • Deep knowledge of statistical/econometric modeling and time series analysis techniques.
  • Prior experience with methodologies such as customer lifetime value, customer loyalty and churn, behavior-based segmentation, and incrementality modeling.
  • Skilled in programming languages and statistical analyses/machine learning tools (Python, R, SAS, SQL, Pyspark) and experience in Big Data platforms (AWS, S3, Azure/Databricks).
  • Strong drive for results and intellectual curiosity; must be a self-starter.
  • Experience evaluating and/or hiring high-performing talent with the ability to train, mentor, and evaluate others' technical capabilities.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated success.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management and product development.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects without sacrificing quality.
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style.
