About the position

Alation seeks a Sr. Manager, People Operations who will play a pivotal role in overseeing the HR operations and processes that drive efficiencies to scale globally. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building new approaches to deliver a great employee experience and implementing global HR Operations strategies across all countries as the company continues to grow. This position will lead a global team of 5 individuals and will oversee HR compliance, policies, global immigration, and mobility programs. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of what is possible from a global HR operations, systems processes, and infrastructure perspective, and be ready to help create this at Alation. In this hybrid role, the Sr. Manager will be expected to work at the headquarters office in Redwood City, California, at least twice a week, and will report directly to the SVP of People. The responsibilities include overseeing HR operations and processes that drive efficiencies, mentoring team members in managing various aspects of People operations such as onboarding and offboarding, HRIS, HR tickets management, reporting, perks, and other administrative tasks. The candidate will partner with the HR Systems team to identify and mature the necessary tools and functionalities to enable HR processes, and will own the delivery, documentation, and effectiveness of core People operations and processes, as well as communication protocols with other functions such as IT, Finance, Payroll, Legal, and Communications. Additionally, the Sr. Manager will play a lead role in the development, implementation, management, support, and maintenance of Alation's people systems and operations. They will contribute to the creation of the People team strategy and roadmaps with respect to HR Operations and cross-functional collaborations. The role requires close partnership with peers, stakeholders, leadership team, and direct reports to design, influence, prioritize, and develop systems automation to reduce and eliminate manual processes. The candidate will also manage HR operations-related projects to further enhance and streamline the employee and manager experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the HR operations and processes that drive efficiencies to scale globally and build new approaches to deliver a great employee experience.
  • Lead and mentor team members in managing various aspects of People operations (e.g., onboarding and offboarding, HRIS, HR tickets management, reporting, perks, and other administrations).
  • Partner with HR Systems team to identify and mature the needed tools and functionality to enable HR processes.
  • Own the delivery, documentation, and effectiveness of core People operations and processes, systems of record, and communication protocols with other functions such as IT, Finance, Payroll, Legal, and Comms.
  • Play a lead role in the development, implementation, management, support, and maintenance of Alation's people systems and operations.
  • Contribute to the creation of People team strategy and roadmaps with respect to HR Operations and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Partner closely with peers, stakeholders, leadership team, and direct reports to design, influence, prioritize and develop systems automation to reduce and eliminate manual processes.
  • Manage HR operations-related projects to further enhance and streamline for seamless employee and manager experience.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive global HR experience, ideally in a high-growth environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in leading and developing a small group of Operation Analysts.
  • Strong HR functional expertise with operations, technology, systems implementations, reporting, and data and analytics.
  • Project management and implementation experience, comfortable developing project plans and timelines and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Experience in designing technology via integrations, automated workflows, and self-service capabilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and analyze large data sets and present recommendations to diverse audiences.
  • Experience and a passion for building strong and effective cross-functional relationships with Legal, Finance, Payroll, and IT to ensure business processes are optimized.
  • Process and execution oriented to manage multiple priorities while accomplishing departmental and organizational goals.
  • Ability to work as a 'hands-on' manager and willingness to 'roll up your sleeves' to get things done.
  • Service minded: Experience and drive to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Proficient with Workday and other HR technology.
  • Well-versed in Google Suite (docs, sheets, etc.) and various HR systems.
