About the position

The Sr. Manager, Port Captain, Marine Nautical position at Royal Caribbean Group is a pivotal role within the Marine Operations Team, reporting directly to the Vice-President of Marine Operations. This full-time position is based on-site in Miami, Florida, and is designed for individuals who are passionate about maritime operations and safety. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the fleet, with a strong emphasis on safety and navigation. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine career aspirations with a sense of adventure, as it involves working closely with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of the cruise line's marine activities. In this role, the Sr. Manager will coordinate with multiple internal departments, including Hotel Operations, Human Resources, and Maritime Safety, to implement safety training programs and oversee marine injury prevention initiatives. The position also involves monitoring the company's shoreside training program for marine officers and leading special projects related to safety and navigation. The Sr. Manager will be responsible for hiring bridge officers for the Celebrity Fleet and will serve as a member of several working groups focused on evacuation, navigation, and human factors. Externally, the Sr. Manager will act as the nautical point of contact for various regulatory bodies, including the USCG and Class authorities, and will oversee the budget for the shoreside training program. The role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to develop high-performing teams, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Mariner license and have at least five years of managerial experience in the cruise industry, demonstrating a strong analytical mindset and the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as Hotel Operations, Human Resources, and Maritime Safety.
  • Oversee and implement marine injury prevention and workplace safety initiatives.
  • Monitor the company's shoreside training program for all marine officers.
  • Lead special projects for Marine & Nautical Ops related to safety and navigation.
  • Responsible for hiring bridge officers for the Celebrity Fleet.
  • Participate in various working groups including Evacuation, Navigation, and Human Factor Working Groups.
  • Oversee routine regulatory issues such as certificate management and scheduling of safety inspections.
  • Monitor vessels' maintenance and safety-related reports.
  • Liaise with the Technical team on Class-related issues and ensure timely repairs and inspections.
  • Act as the point of contact for Situation Alerts regarding safety of life at sea elements.
  • Manage the International Deck Cadet Program in coordination with HR.
  • Conduct Port Captain Assessments and generate nautical & marine reports focused on safety and operations.
  • Participate in marine safety investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Requirements

  • Master's Mariner license with at least 5 years of senior marine officer and/or shoreside managerial experience in the cruise industry.
