About the position

The Senior Manager of R&D Electrical and Software Engineering at Thermo Fisher Scientific will lead innovative projects in the Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation (ICSP) team. This role focuses on driving impactful innovations in scientific challenges through effective management of electrical engineering, firmware, and software development processes. The position emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement, and the development of team capabilities to meet current and future needs.

Responsibilities

  • Define, plan, and implement Electrical Engineering (EE), Firmware (FW), and Software (SW) projects in support of the ICSP business unit strategy.
  • Provide technical guidance and ensure alignment with industry norms and established methods.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to integrate electrical/software engineering solutions into product development.
  • Create and maintain a technical and resource support strategy for the team.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies during the development process.
  • Manage project budgets and resources effectively to optimize productivity.
  • Supervise industry trends and incorporate innovative technologies into the R&D process.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with external partners to source materials and components.
  • Engage in technical reviews and present project updates to senior management.
  • Identify and implement process improvements within the R&D department.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including design specifications and project reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience; MS/MBA preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in R&D.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing R&D teams, including hiring and performance management.
  • Proficiency in leading R&D projects from conception to commercialization.
  • Hands-on design knowledge in low-level signal acquisition, filtering, and signal processing.
  • Experience in Diagnostics, Life Sciences, or Analytical Chemistry industry preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
