About the position

The Sr Manager, Software Engineering will lead a team of Software Engineers to develop innovative solutions using microservices architecture and cloud computing for a Fortune 40 company. This role involves guiding the team in design, development, testing, and ongoing improvements of software solutions, ensuring successful deployment and maintenance of applications. The manager will also provide insights for the roadmap and health of the software portfolio, while focusing on empowering the team to solve complex problems. A strong blend of technical and business acumen is essential, along with excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage software engineers who design, build, and maintain solutions within a set of technology products and/or services.
  • Oversee the translation of business requirements and functional specifications into logical program designs, code modules, and stable application systems.
  • Influence and establish best-in-class engineering practices through solid design decisions and conduct regular code reviews.
  • Leverage DevOps tools such as Bitbucket, Jenkins, Github, and Grafana to monitor and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a hands-on leader responsible for building scalable solutions focused on customer needs.
  • Track key results related to code reliability, reusability, security, and automation.
  • Partner with Scrum teams to align plans with team capacity and increase team velocity.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with internal customers, vendors, and senior management.
  • Design solutions leveraging microservice architecture and API integration.
  • Provide input for departmental budget and manage expenses associated with initiatives.
  • Coordinate estimation and execution of plans, schedules, and resource forecasts.
  • Ensure adherence to company methodology, policies, standards, and controls.
  • Attract and hire talented individuals, set goals, and provide feedback and developmental opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 8 years of IT experience.
  • 4 years of experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 5 years working on projects involving the implementation of software development life cycles (SDLC).
  • 3 years of experience leading project or technical teams with or without formal direct report responsibility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field.
  • 3 years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility.
  • Experience managing operational and/or project financial budgets.
  • IT consulting experience.
  • Experience in IT Management in the retail industry.
  • 3 years of experience in software development in an agile environment.
  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors and/or software solution providers.
  • 3 years working in an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.
