About the position

The Senior Manager, Mobile at Tandem Diabetes Care is responsible for leading teams of software engineers in the development of mobile control functionality and algorithms for diabetes management solutions. This role involves cross-functional collaboration, project management, and ensuring regulatory compliance while driving innovation in mobile technology for insulin pumps. The position is pivotal in expanding the company's reach in the international market and requires a strong technical background in mobile platforms, leadership skills, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Manage external software engineering teams and provide clear guidance to achieve desired results.
  • Set clear annual goals and expectations for team members, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and promote professional growth within the team.
  • Collaborate with mobile management to achieve team goals and company objectives.
  • Plan, design, and develop mobile software on Android and iOS that connects with Tandem Insulin pumps.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless interoperability of products.
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and budgets to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies proactively.
  • Monitor and report on project progress to stakeholders.
  • Maintain a focus on software quality, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
  • Oversee testing, validation, and verification activities for mobile development.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and assist in documentation for submissions.
  • Drive process improvements and the adoption of agile methodologies within the team.

Requirements

  • Strong background in software development, preferably in the medical device or healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity with mobile technology on Android and iOS platforms, specifically in Kotlin and Swift.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including FDA, IEC, and ISO standards.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring software engineering teams.
  • Ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
  • Knowledgeable in Good Documentation Practices (GDP) methodology.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office and testing and tracking software.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Advanced coursework or master's in software engineering, MBA, or professional license preferred.
  • 10 years of software development experience, particularly in the medical device industry.
  • Management experience leading a software engineering team.
  • Product life cycle experience.
