About the position

Salesforce is seeking a Sr. Manager of Software Engineering to lead our software engineering teams in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This role is pivotal in driving the execution and delivery of features by working closely with multi-functional teams, architects, product owners, and engineers. As a leader, you will be responsible for making critical decisions that contribute to the success of our products while proactively identifying and resolving potential issues before they arise. You will manage daily stand-ups as the Scrum Master for engineering teams, ensuring that teams have clear priorities and adequate resources to meet their objectives. In this position, you will empower your delivery team to self-coordinate and foster a culture of success and high morale. You will provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to your team members, advocating for technical excellence and helping them make informed decisions. Your role will also involve participating in architecture discussions, planning, and multi-functional coordination with leads from other engineering teams. You will be responsible for maintaining our culture by interviewing and hiring only the most qualified individuals, ensuring that our teams are composed of top talent. Additionally, you may occasionally contribute to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments, which will help you maintain a deep understanding of our technical products and keep your technical skills sharp. Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution and delivery of features by collaborating with multi-functional teams, architects, product owners, and engineers.
  • Make critical decisions that contribute to the success of the product.
  • Proactively foresee issues and resolve them before they happen.
  • Daily management of stand-ups as the Scrum Master for engineering teams.
  • Partner with Product Owners to align with objectives, priorities, tradeoffs, and risks.
  • Ensure teams have clear priorities and adequate resources.
  • Empower the delivery team to self-coordinate.
  • Be a multiplier and have a passion for team and team members' success.
  • Provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members.
  • Maintain high morale and motivate the delivery team to go above and beyond.
  • Vocally advocate for technical excellence and help teams make good decisions.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and planning.
  • Engage in multi-functional coordination, planning, and reviews with leads from other engineering teams.
  • Maintain and encourage our culture by interviewing and hiring only the most qualified individuals.
  • Occasionally contribute to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications.

Requirements

  • A related technical degree required.
  • 3+ years of proven track record leading software engineering teams with a distinguished track record on technically fast-paced projects.
  • Experience leading large scale distributed systems, working with microservices and/or distributed architecture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, proactive, and comfortable working with minimal specifications.
  • Experience with short release cycles, the full software lifecycle, and experience working on a product that's been released for public consumption.
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring, and leading engineers.
  • Working experience of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies. Scrum Master experience required.
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and product management to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
