About the position

The Senior Manager of Software Engineering at Blue Origin will lead a talented team of software engineers, focusing on developing high-quality software solutions that align with the company's mission of advancing space exploration. This role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to safety, requiring a strong technical background and leadership skills to drive software development processes and mentor team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Drive the design, development, and deployment of high-quality software solutions aligned with Blue Origin's mission.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project objectives, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Ensure the alignment of software engineering practices with industry standards and Blue Origin's goals.
  • Manage and optimize software development processes to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Lead by example in ensuring the security, reliability, and efficiency of software systems.
  • Stay current with advancements in software engineering, tools, and best practices.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing planning and execution software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading software development projects from inception to delivery.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and development methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based environments, particularly AWS.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for space exploration and a commitment to Blue Origin's mission.
  • Direct experience with the manufacturing planning and execution process.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development practices.
  • Experience with DevOps and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements in aerospace.
