About the position

This position is responsible for overseeing technical research and supporting the business with new transactions and contracts. It includes managing benefits accounting and various projects to ensure the company's success.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager and Technical Accounting department.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal key players to become a trusted finance business partner.
  • Perform and review accounting research and evaluation of accounting issues, new business events, transactions, and contracts.
  • Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for all accounting functions, including complex matters.
  • Supervise Benefits Accounting Manager in accounting and reporting for employee/retiree benefit plans.
  • Advise management on the accounting and financial impact of proposed employee benefit strategies.
  • Supervise the budget process for all major benefit costs and advise on significant assumption changes.
  • Monitor and review proposed and newly issued Accounting Standards, implementing them as necessary.
  • Oversee the process to update Policies and Procedures (P&Ps) with various owners.
  • Review P&Ps issued by the parent company to identify necessary updates.
  • Manage continuous improvement in the Finance Department's Change Control program.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve processes or procedures.
  • Draft and review recurring quarterly white papers.
  • Problem solve and resolve accounting issues.
  • Assist with Regulatory Filings as necessary.
  • Handle other special projects as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field preferred.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Extensive experience with writing white papers and accounting research.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Energetic self-starter with excellent communication, presentation, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with inter-departmental teams at all levels of management.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the regulated energy industry preferred.
