About the position

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer for General Assembly is responsible for managing the introduction of new manufacturing equipment and processes, as well as improving existing equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role involves collaboration with various departments to ensure successful project execution from concept to full production, requiring strong engineering skills and leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, procure, and fully commission manufacturing equipment including stakeholder buy-in, RFQ, vendor selection, and project workflow approvals.
  • Ensure thorough equipment validation and production startup through FAT, SAT, OEE, and complete technical documentation.
  • Provide detailed assessments and critical Design For Manufacture (DFM) reviews of Product, Process, and Tooling designs.
  • Define and achieve OEE, throughput, and cycle time during project execution.
  • Lead internal and external GA projects with tooling design and reviews.
  • Create and provide Process sheets, Work instructions, Maintenance instructions, and Manufacturing BOM for training production and maintenance teams.
  • Study technologies to an expert level and lead new implementations.
  • Develop business cases and ROI studies, communicating project justifications to senior leadership.
  • Provide technical support, leadership, and training to engineers and cross-departmental teams.
  • Work hands-on in a production environment to understand scope and impact of changes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or proven equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex manual and automated manufacturing equipment & processes, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Ability to work independently with concepts and documentation from prototype to sustaining activities.
  • Familiarity with assembly processes, technologies, and platforms, including their capabilities and limitations.
  • Extensive proficiency with 3D (SolidWorks, 3Dx, Catia) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD) platforms.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict within a large group.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and schedules as required.
