About the position

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer position at Elbit Systems of America focuses primarily on the ROEM 155mm Howitzer program, with responsibilities extending to other areas as needed. This role is critical in a new facility where the engineer will have the opportunity to develop processes and procedures as the project progresses. The position emphasizes the design of assembly fixtures and jigs, as well as the creation of test procedures, particularly during the first year of operation. The engineer will be tasked with reviewing and evaluating existing manufacturing processes, including run-times and bills of material, and will initiate necessary adaptations or modifications to machinery or equipment to ensure efficient production conditions. A significant part of the role involves developing manufacturing jigs, tools, fixtures, and methods that align with engineering specifications to facilitate efficient manufacturing. In addition, the engineer will establish and coordinate priorities for tools, jigs, and fixtures to optimize the manufacturing of devices and components. They will determine appropriate assembly processes and sequences, ensuring that manufacturing documentation packages are adequate. Training operators and technicians on the developed processes and procedures is also a key responsibility. The engineer will prepare project requests that detail proposed engineering work costs, parts lists, bills of material, and product timetables, while monitoring project costs to ensure adherence to budget. They will support manufacturing and production processes by resolving design and production problems and facilitating the transition from development to production operations. Furthermore, the engineer will review product designs and engineering prototypes, recommending design changes to enhance producibility. They will provide direction on methods to maximize the overall efficiency of assembly operations and maintain communication with vendors and interfacing departments to resolve producibility issues efficiently. The role also involves working within an ERP system to develop process flows and routing steps, creating work cell layouts, and instructing entry-level manufacturing engineers. The engineer will collaborate with engineering technicians to troubleshoot and complete prototypes, create and troubleshoot test procedures, and lead integrated project teams on smaller projects such as cost savings initiatives and prototype schedules. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
