About the position

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Milpitas, CA. In this pivotal role, the candidate will leverage their engineering education and experience to act as a technical liaison between JJSV engineering and external manufacturers. The primary focus will be on supporting external manufacturers to enhance manufacturing processes, ensuring that products are produced safely and efficiently while meeting all quality, compliance, cost, and delivery requirements. The candidate will play a crucial role in preventing or minimizing unplanned downtime and will be responsible for identifying, procuring, qualifying, and integrating key manufacturing tools, equipment, processes, and systems. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will investigate product and process quality to implement improvements that enhance customer satisfaction. This includes leading continuous improvement projects and designing production electronic testing equipment for internal manufacturing, as well as collaborating with external suppliers to optimize PCBA testing. A detailed understanding of data analytics, statistics, and Six Sigma/Lean methodologies is essential. The candidate will be expected to develop and apply mathematical or statistical theories and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize numerical data, providing actionable insights. Additionally, the role involves documenting, verifying, and validating mechanical, optical, and electrical designs and their related processes. The candidate will plan and implement component qualifications, sampling plans, and test strategies, while also supporting new product transfer activities, including process qualification and supplier component processes. This position is integral to the success of our manufacturing operations and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and process optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical liaison between JJSV engineering and external manufacturers.
  • Support external manufacturers to improve manufacturing processes and ensure product quality.
  • Prevent or minimize unplanned downtime in manufacturing operations.
  • Identify, procure, qualify, and integrate key manufacturing tools and equipment.
  • Investigate product and process quality to implement improvements for customer satisfaction.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects and design production electronic testing equipment.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers to optimize PCBA testing processes.
  • Develop and apply statistical methods to analyze data and provide actionable insights.
  • Document, verify, and validate mechanical, optical, and electrical designs and processes.
  • Plan and implement component qualifications, sampling plans, and test strategies.
  • Support new product transfer activities, including process qualification and supplier component processes.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Experience with PCBA Functional Testing and DFM knowledge.
  • Ability to design, perform, and interpret Gage R&R results.
  • Experience leading EOL electronics projects and identifying technical risks.
  • Manufacturing/Process Engineering experience required.
  • Six Sigma and Lean experience/certification with strong data analysis skills.
  • Understanding of variation sources in manufacturing (Special Cause vs. Common Cause).
  • Experience with Minitab statistical software or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
