About the position

Nintendo of America Inc. is seeking a Localization Specialist who will be responsible for translating, adapting, and editing moderately complex marketing, promotional, and consumer service materials into Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Canadian French. This role is crucial in supporting Nintendo's products and services across the Americas. The Localization Specialist will provide proposals to address potential cultural and creative challenges in adapting marketing materials, ensuring that feedback is prioritized appropriately to balance stakeholder resources and scheduling challenges. Timely communication with management regarding schedule challenges, changes, and delays is essential, as is providing input and assistance on planning and scheduling. In addition to translation duties, the Localization Specialist may test and evaluate games and products, providing feedback on design and content for the NOA territories. The role involves reviewing machine translations and text from outsourcing and global partners for accuracy and consistency, while proactively identifying opportunities to enhance machine translation processes. The Specialist will maintain awareness of the game industry in assigned markets and communicate market trends to promotional and marketing teams. Coordination with localization staff to create and maintain shared glossaries of terminology related to hardware, software, and services is also a key responsibility. The position requires innovation and efficiency in the translation, adaptation, and editing processes. The Localization Specialist may participate in the hiring process by conducting interviews and providing feedback on machine translation tools. Additionally, the role includes translating, adapting, and editing content for websites, social media, and other consumer-facing portals, ensuring that all materials align with Nintendo's creative vision and market preferences.

Responsibilities

  • Translate, adapt, and edit marketing, promotional, and consumer service materials into Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Canadian French.
  • Provide proposals for addressing cultural and creative challenges in adapting marketing materials for the Americas.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of localization experience.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of global localization issues and market preferences.
  • Ability to make recommendations regarding cultural/localization issues affecting marketing materials.
  • Experience in translation, copywriting, and copyediting.
  • Ability to produce high-quality results under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working with global teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of Nintendo franchises, products, and history.
  • Familiarity with the historical and current video game industry for console, PC, and mobile markets.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and ability to quickly learn complex proprietary software.
  • Familiarity with programming language tags preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly confidential environment.
  • Strong translation, writing, and editing skills required.
  • Awareness of US and French Canadian/Latin American/Brazilian Portuguese translation issues and market preferences recommended.
  • Familiarity with French Canadian/Latin American/Brazilian Portuguese history, culture, customs, and business protocol required.
  • Familiarity with localization/CAT tools like translation memory, machine translation, and content management tools preferred.
  • Experience operating Microsoft Windows and Office software in French/Spanish/Portuguese.
  • Valid passport required.
  • Native fluency in Portuguese.
  • Undergraduate degree in required language, Linguistics, Translation, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience translating and editing in target language required.
