About the position

Geartrain Design Engineers in Tesla's Drive Systems Engineering Team are responsible for the design, release, and launch of the geartrain components for Tesla vehicle product lines. This role is crucial in creating and executing world-class drive units that excel in performance, cost, and manufacturability, particularly for the Tesla Semi Truck. The position involves working on components of significant importance, including gears, bearings, shafts, clutches, couplers, actuators, differentials, and the integration of these components into the overall system. In this role, you will develop innovative concepts for geartrain-related components aimed at minimizing part count, cost, and complexity within the drive unit. You will be involved in the design and analysis of various geartrain components, including rotating shafts, gears, differentials, torque split devices, couplings, and clutches. Additionally, you will design, coordinate, and execute both system-level and component-level tests to assess performance, durability, reliability, and variability of the components. Risk assessment, root cause analysis, and problem resolution for failures of geartrain components during validation tests will also be part of your responsibilities. You will provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, production, quality, supply chain, and service, throughout the entire development and lifecycle of drive unit products. Collaboration with suppliers to drive process improvements and product excellence for high-volume contract manufacturing will be essential. You will work alongside world-class experts in Firmware, Design, and Test Engineering to develop and bring innovative technologies to mass production. Your role will also include performing CAE analysis for geartrain components and subsystems, utilizing CAD software for 2D and 3D modeling, and mentoring entry-level engineers and interns within the team.
