About the position

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead technical projects and assist in coaching other engineers to enhance their design skills. This role involves researching and developing new product ideas, performing structural designs for aircraft, and managing engineering drawing packages. The engineer will utilize various design software and ensure that designs meet user requirements while pursuing cost-saving opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Take technical lead on specific projects as identified by the Engineering Manager.
• Assist the Engineering Manager in coaching other Mechanical Engineers.
• Research and develop ideas for new products and systems.
• Perform aircraft conceptual and preliminary structural design.
• Conduct trade studies (weight, performance, structural sizing).
• Create engineering designs, layouts, and drawings for aircraft composite and metallic parts.
• Lead a team of designers/draftsman to complete engineering drawing packages.
• Complete designs using Catia, Cameo, and Solidworks design software.
• Maintain complex Bills of Material and pursue cost-saving opportunities.
• Perform critical path analysis and implement work-around plans for project completion.

Requirements

• Degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in a related field.
• Extensive experience in a similar role within military/aerospace or similar industry.
• Supervisory experience.
• Proficient in CATIA V5, Solidworks, and Cameo (10,000+ hours minimum).
• Experience with GD&T and model-based definition.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage designs effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Hands-on experience with composites part fabrication and assembly processes.
• Familiarity with Enovia and PDM.
