About the position

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical/HVAC Engineer to join our team in our Boston-area (Braintree, MA) office. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be engaged in projects involving the design of facility-related heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC). This role is ideal for an engineer who is enthusiastic about Mechanical HVAC design and enjoys working on complex projects across various fields such as commercial, industrial, institutional, and airport projects. In this senior position, the successful applicant will be responsible for design quality control and leading a team throughout the design process, as well as being involved in construction administration services. We seek someone with a passion for design and leadership who will participate in and support project teams to undertake the design and delivery of services related to HVAC design and construction, as well as the overall project management. This position reports to the Corporate Mechanical Discipline Lead, Project Manager(s), and the local Operations Manager. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will function as the Project Lead Technical Engineer and/or Project Manager on assignments with mechanical/HVAC design scope and other disciplines. They will identify needed project resources and work with Corporate Discipline Leads to assign team members. Acting as a client/Company liaison, the engineer will keep both parties appropriately informed of project status, ensuring that projects are completed with a high-quality level, on time, and under budget. The role includes technical management and oversight for existing or new projects, ensuring coordinated design on projects with Mechanical and other disciplines, and that all procedures and steps are in accordance with Company standards. The engineer will create and review mechanical/HVAC drawings and technical specifications, contribute to project estimation, planning, and construction feasibility, and provide advisory information during the construction phase. Additionally, they will perform site surveys, contribute to engineering studies, and participate in monitoring project production and schedules to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Function as Project Lead Technical Engineer and/or Project Manager on assignments with mechanical/HVAC design scope and other disciplines.
  • Identify needed project resources and work with Corporate Discipline Leads to assign team members.
  • Act as client/Company liaison, keeping both appropriately informed of project status.
  • Assist with the development of mechanical staff.
  • Supervise the work of other staff when assigned.
  • Consult and coordinate with Supervisor and other senior management members at regularly scheduled meetings to review status of active and future projects.
  • Ensure coordinated design on projects with Mechanical and other disciplines.
  • Ensure all procedures and steps are in accordance with Company standards.
  • Create and review mechanical/HVAC drawings and technical specifications.
  • Contribute to estimation of projects, planning, and construction feasibility.
  • Provide advisory information during the construction phase.
  • Perform site surveys and contribute to engineering studies.
  • Attend and contribute to office, client, and project meetings.
  • Participate in the monitoring of project production and schedules to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure the quality of the work produced maintains company and industry standards.
  • Perform engineering studies.
  • Perform technical and coordination check-review of project documentation and drawings.
  • Follow up on issues with design and production staff to resolve problems and concerns.

Requirements

  • Proficient in project management.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Exceptional knowledge of HVAC System Engineering for large public facilities.
  • Exceptional knowledge of the International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, NFPA Life Safety code, and applicable Building Codes.
  • Knowledge of Electrical, Fire Protection, and special systems engineering.
  • Good communications and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Detailed and safety-oriented.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.
  • BS or MS related four-year degree in Mechanical/HVAC Engineering.
  • Possession of PE license in Mechanical Engineering. Ability to obtain Mechanical PE in all six New England states within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrative progressive growth in engineering experience/knowledge with a minimum of 10 years industry experience/3-5 years of project management experience.
  • Valid state driver's license (any in US).
  • Ability to work in the US.
  • Ability to meet worksite security requirements including MA State Police and USCBP/TSA background checks.
