About the position

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer position at Valmont in Newberry, SC, is a full-time, direct hire role that focuses on developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective designs and manufacturing processes in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. This position is critical in ensuring that the engineering solutions provided are innovative and effective in resolving field and manufacturing problems while also maintaining and improving existing products. The engineer will be responsible for project management, process improvement, problem resolution, and employee training, which are key priorities in this role. In this position, the engineer will perform research, design, and development of new and sustaining manufacturing processes and tool designs. This includes conducting process evaluations to analyze production flow, assembly methods, and waste elimination. The engineer will also prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment, coordinating the manufacturing launch of new or revised products. This involves establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results to ensure successful implementation. The role requires the design, development, testing, or sourcing of various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods. The engineer will be responsible for implementing all phases of project plans and monitoring progress against established schedules and budget targets. Maintaining good relationships with customers, field personnel, and other departments is essential to ensure an efficient working environment. Additionally, the engineer will provide technical support to other departments as needed to meet customer requirements and perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency enhancement.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective designs, manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards
  • Recommends and implements improvements to product, production processes, methods and controls
  • Priorities include project management, process improvement, problem resolution, and employee training
  • Performs research, design and development of new and sustaining manufacturing processes and tool design
  • Performs process evaluations including production flow, assembly methods and waste elimination
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products, including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
  • Designs, develops, tests or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Responsible for providing creative and innovative engineering solutions that aid in the resolution of field and manufacturing problems and in the maintenance and improvement of existing products
  • Responsible for implementing all phases of project plans and monitoring progress per established schedule and budget targets
  • Responsible for maintaining good relationships with customers, field personnel and other Valmont departments to ensure the most efficient working environment
  • Provide technical support to other departments as required toward meeting the needs of our customers
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency improvement
  • Maintain technical specifications, process capabilities, and tooling libraries
  • Knowledge of C programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Three or more years of Manufacturing experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Auto Cad and/or Solid works, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Word
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify, communicate and participate in process improvement opportunities (LEAN) aimed at reducing cost, improving efficiencies and increasing customer satisfaction
  • Experience with composites
  • Experience with GD&T, material specification, surface finishing requirements and manufacturing techniques (milling, turning, and welding, surface treatments)
  • Previous work experience managing projects
