About the position

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer at INDUS will play a crucial role in providing Fleet & Industrial Operations & Engineering support for the Underwater Tracking Range Equipment (UTRE), Training Vehicles/Shapes, Test and Support Equipment, and Fleet Operations Engineering Support on the Hawaii Detachments Support Services contract. This position is based in Honolulu, HI, and reports directly to the Program Manager. The engineer will be responsible for researching, developing, designing, manufacturing, and testing various mechanical devices, including tools, engines, and machines. The role requires a strong focus on developing power-using machines such as machine tools, material handling systems, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing. In addition to design responsibilities, the engineer will utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for design data processing. The position also involves assisting with CNC/lathe/milling machine operation and maintenance, as well as providing support for various carpentry, painting, welding, hydraulic systems, and electrical tasks as needed. The engineer will be expected to provide comprehensive documentation packages and reports for equipment, components, systems, and inventory management. The role may require performing work in both the shop and field environments, including fleet support and potential off-island travel. Facility maintenance and cleaning support are also part of the responsibilities, which include managing trash and hazardous materials disposal and metal recycling while adhering to environmental guidelines. The engineer may also be involved in bid and proposal support as requested, along with other duties assigned by the management.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, design, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices.
  • Develop power-using machines such as machine tools, material handling systems, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing.
  • Design tools for other engineers.
  • Use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for design data processing.
  • Assist with CNC/lathe/milling machine operation and maintenance.
  • Assist with various carpentry, painting, welding, hydraulic systems, and electrical support as needed.
  • Provide documentation packages and reports for equipment, components, systems, and inventory management.
  • Perform work in the shop and/or in the field, including fleet support and possible off-island travel.
  • Provide facility maintenance/cleaning support, including trash/hazardous materials disposal and metal recycling while following environmental guidelines.
  • Support bid and proposal efforts if requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required.
  • At least seven (7) years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering field.
  • Must obtain respirator certification and medical clearance.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Adult First Aid certified through the American Red Cross or equivalent certification body.
  • Forklift 15k Operator License obtained within twelve (12) months of onboarding.
  • Navy Crane Center Category III Crane certification obtained within six (6) months of onboarding.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time and alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing.
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery and industrial tools with limited to no supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 10 years of engineering work experience in an industrial, maintenance, and repair environment.
  • At least 10 years of engineering work experience in construction, maintenance, testing, and repair of Medium-sized UUV equipment.
  • At least 10 years of technical report writing and leading investigations to address deficiencies.
  • At least 10 years of CAD drafting and project file management, including Autodesk inventor and Mastercam (preferred).
  • Demonstrates creativity and attention to detail.
  • Quality System ISO 9001:2015 Registered and Certified.
  • Possess good mechanical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
