About the position

As a Senior Reliability Test Engineer at Tesla, you will focus on mechanical and thermal systems, playing a crucial role in the reliability lifecycle of Tesla Energy's products. This position involves designing reliability into next-generation Industrial, Residential, and Charging platforms, ensuring optimal product design for a best-in-class customer experience. You will execute physical tests, develop automated test equipment, and analyze performance and reliability data to uncover design and process failures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead test engineering activities for mechanical and thermal systems including enclosures, busbars/conductors, and thermal actuators.
  • Design and execute product and component level reliability testing, including hands-on testing with real hardware.
  • Design, build, and implement next-gen hardware and software test systems for reliable design characterization and accelerated life testing.
  • Determine energy product test strategies optimizing for product reliability, DFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules.
  • Conduct test data and failure analysis, clearly communicate test results, and collaborate cross-functionally with design and reliability engineers.
  • Train Technicians/Engineers to operate and troubleshoot test equipment.
  • Comply with safety policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in hardware design validation, hardware testing & instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Knowledge of general programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis/post-processing (Python preferred).
  • Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems.
  • Experience working safely with high voltage equipment (up to 1kV).
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools.
  • Experience using CAD software for custom test fixture design.
  • Proven ability to develop reliability tests including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing is highly preferred.
