About the position
The Senior Medical Lab Scientist (Sr. MLS) plays a crucial role in overseeing clinical laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy and validity of diagnostic tests. This position involves performing oversight functions in compliance with federal and state regulations, engaging in quality improvement initiatives, and collaborating with laboratory leadership to enhance patient care through effective laboratory practices.
Responsibilities
- Perform oversight tasks on all clinical laboratory testing of various complexities in a timely manner.
- Provide daily oversight of clinical chemistry, toxicology, transfusion services, urinalysis, hemostasis, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and point of care as assigned.
- Assign quality control tasks and preventive maintenance for laboratory tests and equipment.
- Assist lab supervisor in validating new tests, equipment, or methodologies.
- Coordinate and provide direction for instruments, processes, and test method verification studies.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and external healthcare professionals.
- Assist in maintaining a comprehensive quality control and assurance program.
- Coordinate accreditation inspections and monitor lab safety protocols.
- Provide accurate and timely information to facilitate project completion.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
- Medical Technologist licensure by the State of Florida in accordance with CLIA.
- Two years of experience as MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), MT(AAB), or MT(AMT).
- Proficient in required computer applications and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and organizational skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Lab Supervisor’s License through the State of Florida.
- MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent specialist certification by ASCP.
- Five years of experience as a Medical Lab Scientist.
