The Sr. Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist in the Blood Bank at Summa Health System plays a crucial role in assisting the Supervisor/Manager with the daily organization and supervision of laboratory activities. This position involves performing the duties characteristic of a Medical Technologist, providing technical assistance and training to staff, and ensuring effective communication across shifts and departments. The role is essential for maintaining professional and service-focused operations within the lab, and the incumbent may assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager.

Responsibilities

• Assist Supervisor/Manager with daily organization and supervision of work activities.
• Perform duties characteristic of a Medical Technologist.
• Provide technical assistance and training to staff.
• Facilitate communication between shifts, sections, and hospital departments.
• Ensure day-to-day operations are carried out by staff in a professional, service-focused manner.
• Assume duties of Supervisor/Manager in their absence.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or equivalent education and experience.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred.
• Two years of related laboratory experience.
• Minimum of 12 continuing education credits required each calendar year for continued employment.
