About the position

The Sr Mobile Technician at J.B. Hunt is a key role responsible for performing complex maintenance, service, and repair of trailers, containers, chassis, and power equipment at customer sites or rail yards using a mobile service truck. This position acts as a subject matter expert, ensuring that all fleet maintenance processes are completed to meet company specifications while also mentoring new technicians and overseeing maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance tasks including tire replacements, brake repairs, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Oversee recall campaigns and sign off on completion.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair ABS systems and specialized equipment including refrigerated units and lift gates.
  • Onboard and mentor new technician trainees; act as team lead to coordinate shift support and tasks.
  • Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard.
  • Operate assigned service truck according to company requirements; manage service truck parts inventory.
  • Complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
  • Document damage to company equipment to estimate repair costs.
  • Use cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid-level repairs on chassis and frames.
  • Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs to ensure they are sealed and water-tight.
  • Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections sign-off.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs with 3 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines.
  • Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.
  • Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed.
  • DOT-certified in FHWA inspections and air brakes.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 3 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair.
  • Welding certification.
  • Forklift certification and experience.
  • EPA section 608 certification and Refrigeration License.
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
