About the position

The Sr. Network Administrator is responsible for the implementation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and support of the organization's IT infrastructure, including various network systems and server environments. This role involves providing tier III technical support, managing Cisco network devices, and configuring Palo Alto firewalls, while ensuring optimal performance and security of the network and server systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, vendors, and the public.
  • Provide systems support for the City’s network and server infrastructure, including analysis, diagnosis, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Design, develop, test, implement, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain LAN and WLAN networks, server systems, and wireless equipment.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot data center network infrastructure; develop cabling plans and hardware specifications.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot virtual infrastructure systems.
  • Plan, implement, maintain, and monitor data center changes for environmental, physical, and power systems.
  • Monitor server logs and performance data; configure servers and networks to maximize performance.
  • Administer server and network monitoring and response systems.
  • Prepare and maintain system procedures and documentation; monitor assigned systems and resources.
  • Analyze and solve operating problems; make system modifications as necessary.
  • Provide technical support and training for IT staff and other users.
  • Perform statistical analysis to troubleshoot enterprise-level issues.
  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot all DNS and DHCP servers.
  • Prepare clear and concise program documentation, user procedures, and instructions.
  • Document new and existing systems and coordinate system development activities with others.
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing or developed systems; work with appropriate resources to resolve them.
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in assigned areas.

Requirements

  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience in computer science, data or information processing, or a closely related field.
  • Proficient in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco network devices (routers, switches, access points, etc.).
  • Expertise in Palo Alto firewall configuration and management, including setting up security policies, NAT rules, and VPNs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Cisco Network Operating and Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies including VMWare.
  • Understanding of network routing and switching protocols.
