About the position

The Sr. Network Design Engineer at Carnegie Mellon University is responsible for the design, engineering, installation, and maintenance of network systems. This role involves testing and evaluating various data communication systems, performing network modeling and analysis, and making hardware and software recommendations to enhance network performance and security. The position requires a proactive approach to network management and a commitment to collaboration and diversity within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Deploys, configures, manages, and monitors Local Area and Wide Area Networks.
  • Supports network technologies and services such as firewalls, load balancing, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, 802.11 wireless LANs, TCP/IP, Ethernet, and VPN.
  • Monitors network security and connectivity.
  • Gathers information to evaluate network performance and identify user needs.
  • Maintains accurate and updated documentation.
  • Responds to tier 3 support requests regarding network issues and troubleshoots to determine resolutions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • 5-7 years of Network Administration/Design Network Deployment and Support, and/or Network Security Administration experience required.
  • Advanced Aruba Networks experience and/or certifications desired.
  • Experience with cloud connectivity and service deployments and/or operations.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and project planning/management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Other wireless vendor experience and/or certifications.
