About the position

The Sr. Network Development Engineer at AWS Backbone is responsible for designing, operating, and implementing large-scale networks that support connectivity to and from Amazon, as well as between Amazon's data centers. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to ensure the highest standards of safety and security while delivering scalable network solutions. The engineer will work on innovative designs that are fail-proof and can grow infinitely, addressing complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and technology refresh.
• Design network designs, services, and deployment procedures that meet various requirements.
• Create and defend High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents.
• Work with internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps and support deployment and operation of designs.
• Automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
• Collaborate with internal customers to bring designs/solutions from concept to production.

Requirements

• 3+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
• 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols.
• 5+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
• Associate's degree or relevant certifications (CEH, CFR, Cloud+, GICSP, SSCP).

Nice-to-haves

• 5+ years of industry experience in environments such as ISP, peering and exchange, and large (IP) carrier networks.
• Background in high availability, global backbone design and architecture.
• Strong Unix/Linux skills and ability to script in Python, Perl, shell, C or C++.
• Understanding of Hardware Load Balancers in a large data center environment.
• Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE).
