About the position

Apple is seeking a Senior Network Design and Implementation Engineer to join their Global Network Services (GNS) team. This role is pivotal in supporting Apple's Global Backbone, which is essential for the company's operations across various business units. This position requires a deep understanding of backbone network operations and engineering, as well as the ability to develop and implement networking solutions that address a variety of business challenges. In this role, the Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing infrastructure in the Backbone and Internet Edge, utilizing protocols such as BGP, MPLS, ISIS, and OSPF. The engineer will also be tasked with validating hardware functional conformance and identifying software bugs, collaborating with vendors for bug fixes and new features. Additionally, the role involves working closely with peers in Engineering and Architecture to evaluate and implement new technologies and hardware vendors that meet Apple's network design requirements. The successful candidate will need to excel in a collaborative team environment, demonstrating strong people skills and a commitment to operational excellence. They will be expected to mentor others and maintain a customer-centric approach in their work. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement infrastructure in the Backbone and Internet Edge.
  • Develop, implement, and support complex networking solutions.
  • Validate hardware functional conformance and identify software bugs.
  • Collaborate with vendors on bug fixes and new features.
  • Work with peers in Engineering and Architecture to evaluate and implement new technologies.
  • Mentor team members and support cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • 6 to 8 years of experience with Service Provider network design and support.
  • Experience in operating a large scale network utilizing BGP, RSVP, MPLS, ISIS, and/or OSPF.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP (both IPv4/IPv6).
  • Experience and knowledge of Internet Routing Policies and Internet Peering.
  • Experience with Network Flow Analysis tools is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of at least one vendor CLI of JUNOS, SROS, EOS, or IOS/XRS is required.
  • Ability to script using Ansible, Python, or equivalent.
  • College degree (BA or BS) or relevant experience; technical degree preferred.
