About the position

Leidos is seeking a Senior Level Network Engineer to join our dynamic National Security Group. This role is pivotal in supporting a large, complex, and fast-paced program that adheres to the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology. The program emphasizes the use of DEVOPS best practices and incorporates robust development, testing, and production environments. The selected candidate will engage in Test Driven Development (TDD) and utilize test automation tools, alongside a comprehensive suite of team collaboration tools, to provide system engineering, development, testing, integration, and operational support. This initiative aims to inject new technology and enhance capabilities while maintaining support for ongoing missions and operational systems. The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for the configuration and security management of routers, switches, and firewalls within a diverse environment that includes networking equipment from various manufacturers, as well as Windows/Linux servers, databases, VMware, and security hardware and software. The network infrastructure comprises local and geographically dispersed LAN enclaves interconnected by WAN links. The engineer will collaborate with a team to build, maintain, and enhance a complex set of geographically dispersed Information Technology (IT) systems. Responsibilities include planning and designing network components and configurations to ensure the availability of necessary resources for monitoring and managing the IT system infrastructure and all related processes and components. In this role, the engineer will engineer solutions aimed at expanding capacity, improving response times, and streamlining network operations across internal and operational systems. They will monitor and analyze mission-critical networks and servers, manage security functions, and optimize application performance across both internal and customer systems. The position also involves providing network administration support for the development, deployment, and troubleshooting of the enterprise network environment, planning and implementing IT/network enhancements, and undertaking project work. The engineer will communicate with users regarding system outages, provide timely support, and maintain network documentation to assist with incident resolution. Additionally, the engineer will work closely with IT service provider teams to ensure customer requirements are met and supported by the evolving LAN/WAN architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and manage routers, switches, and firewalls in a complex network environment.
  • Provide network administration support for development, deployment, and troubleshooting of the enterprise network.
  • Plan and implement IT/network enhancements and undertake project work.
  • Monitor and resolve network issues promptly.
  • Communicate with users regarding system outages and provide status updates as needed.
  • Maintain clear and concise network documentation to assist with incident resolution.
  • Collaborate with IT service provider teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Execute processes for managing information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVAs) and system security scanning.
  • Initiate IAVA responses and system security scans, completing remediation and extending patches and updates.
  • Analyze existing network and server configurations and develop enhancement plans.
  • Plan and manage installations and upgrades for networks and servers.
  • Propose, design, test, and install new capabilities in the environment.
  • Assess the impact of system changes on the team and infrastructure.
  • Provide written and in-person status updates to leadership.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of technical data such as rack elevations and installation instructions.
  • Respond to network, operations, and maintenance problems while off duty, on an on-call basis.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, and firewalls.
  • Experience with network security management and vulnerability assessments.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Proficiency in VMware and virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance optimization tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Experience with cloud networking solutions is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages for automation (e.g., Python, Bash) is a plus.
