About the position

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the conceptual design, implementation, and operational support of organizational networks, including LAN/WAN and data center infrastructures. This role involves providing technical expertise, mentoring staff, and ensuring network efficiency and reliability through effective troubleshooting and management of network components.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs, advises, and mentors personnel on established standards and provides technical expertise and guidance.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures, ensuring documentation is current and complete.
  • Develops design specifications for network topologies, electronics, and distribution systems based on general requirements.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of assigned staff, participating in selection, training, and performance input.
  • Directs and performs troubleshooting to identify root causes of business-impacting events and documents processes to limit recurring issues.
  • Configures and deploys network management tools to monitor network capacity and maximize availability.
  • Develops timelines showing phasing, interdependencies, and resource requirements for projects.
  • Provides on-call coverage for network interruptions and serves as escalation for team members in on-call rotations.
  • Participates in quality improvement projects and leads initiatives in modern technologies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 7 years of related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with large enterprise-wide LAN/WAN environments in a University or Hospital setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with network electronics, including optical networking concepts, routers, switches, etc.
  • Familiarity with network management tools such as Intermapper, Netdisco, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, etc.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet concepts and network routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP required.
  • Familiarity with structured cable plant components and techniques for both fiber and copper required.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and addressing required.
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP preferred.
