About the position

As a Senior Network Engineer at CarMax, you will play a pivotal role in implementing highly scalable solutions within both the Microsoft Azure Public Cloud and On-Premises environments. Your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain the organization's network architecture, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability. You will collaborate closely with reliability teams to ensure site reliability and facilitate the seamless transition of all releases from development through staging and into production. In your day-to-day activities, you will oversee the planning and execution of network projects, providing technical leadership to your team while collaborating with cross-functional departments to meet business objectives. You will be tasked with planning, implementing, and troubleshooting an enterprise multi-site Aruba campus wireless network, as well as managing remote-access and multi-tenant environments. Your role will also involve analyzing functional requirements to create a comprehensive network design and implementation plan, configuring and validating Aruba WLAN secure employee and guest solutions, and managing and monitoring Aruba solutions. Additionally, you will be responsible for safeguarding the organization's computer systems and networks from security breaches, cyber threats, and vulnerabilities. This includes leading network architecture planning, providing technical expertise in troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring that network security measures are effectively implemented. Regular network performance monitoring and optimization will be part of your responsibilities, along with mentoring and training junior network engineers to enhance team capabilities. You will also evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for network improvements, while developing and maintaining network documentation for reference and compliance purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting network issues and implementing solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure network security measures are in place.
  • Conduct regular network performance monitoring and optimization.
  • Mentor and train junior network engineers to enhance team capabilities.
  • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for network improvements.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation for reference and compliance purposes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Network Engineer or similar role in a large-scale environment.
  • Experience in the planning, design, deployment and support of LAN/WAN/ and IP architectures.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, hardware, and software solutions including deploying network services and protocols such as TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, LAN Switching Technologies, Next-Gen Firewalls (Fortinet preferred), and Load Balancing (F5 preferred).
  • Provide tier-3 operational support for Wireless LAN Controllers, resolving critical business issues that require deep wireless network troubleshooting techniques and performance analysis.
  • Extensive experience in traditional route/switch, Wireless technologies, VPN, SSL, DNS, DHCP, and ISE.
  • Conduct network security assessments & recommend remediation actions.
  • Hands-on experience with network security and design and maintain security controls for network infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead projects and teams effectively.
  • Experience utilizing a public cloud solution (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Prior experience working with industry network tools: monitoring (Splunk, NetScout, Zabbix), management (Prime, ISE, Aruba Central), inventory management (Netbox, IPAM), and DNS solutions.
  • Scripting experience with scripting languages (python, GO, PowerShell) and tools (versioning, GitHub) as well as experience utilizing REST APIs, JSON, and YAML.
  • Experience with multiple hardware/software platforms such as Cisco, Fortinet, F5, NetScout.
  • Strong teamwork skills, ability to learn quickly, excellent written and spoken communication.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance and integrity.
