About the position

At Digital Realty's IT department, we are dedicated to enhancing the value derived from our technology investments. Our team operates with a sense of urgency and passion, striving to deliver quality solutions that meet customer needs. We are currently seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team. This role involves close collaboration with Corporate Services, Operations, and other departments to implement and maintain effective network solutions. Given the diverse technologies we utilize, we are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual who can manage enterprise solutions while also being open to innovative approaches to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of Cisco IOS and networking principles, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in their field. In this position, you will engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and design network solutions as part of the Network Engineering team. You will be responsible for maintaining and updating detailed network documentation, serving as an escalation point for complex problem resolution, and managing vendor relationships to ensure compliance with licensing and support agreements. Additionally, you will oversee projects that involve both remote hands vendors and internal staff, ensuring effective communication with customers and team members throughout project assignments. Regular progress updates will be communicated through our project management system, and you will be expected to work independently, driving tasks to completion based on established project plans.

Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements
  • Design and implement network solutions as part of the Network Engineering team
  • Maintain and update detailed network documentation
  • Provide an escalation point for resolving complex problems requiring advanced skills and research capability
  • Maintain vendor relationships and ensure compliance with licensing and support agreements
  • Manage projects utilizing remote hands vendors and internal staff
  • Provide support knowledge sharing, authoring, and maintenance of system run books and documentation
  • Drive work to completion based on pre-devised project plans
  • Communicate with customers and team members throughout project assignments; report back progress through project management system at regular intervals

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of Cisco products, their functionality, configuration, and best practices
  • Experience with QoS, IPSLA, DMVPN, WAN, MPLS, SIP, PRI, IPSEC, STP
  • Proficiency in Cisco AnyConnect VPN
  • Working knowledge of BGP, EIGRP, OSPF
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows networking configuration and protocols
  • Strong skills in error investigation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
  • Minimum five years' experience as a network engineer responsible for a primarily Cisco-based network

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the data center industry
  • Cisco Certification Network Professional certification or higher
  • Familiarity with SolarWinds monitoring platform
  • Experience with Fortinet and Palo Alto firewalls (3+ years)
  • Meraki experience
  • Experience with Cisco DNA/ISE
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust
  • Experience with zScaler
  • Cloud experience (1-2 years)
