About the position

Modis is currently seeking a Network Security Engineer for an exciting direct hire job opportunity with our global legal client, located in the heart of Downtown Chicago/Central Loop. With over 2500 lawyers spanning offices in 50 countries across the world, our client is a proven leader in legal services, committed to staying ahead of the game with the most cutting-edge infrastructure technologies. This position is situated in a fast-paced environment, requiring some off-hours support to partner with various time zones globally. The Network Security Engineer will join a large Network Infrastructure Team and serve as a main point of contact for evaluating, designing, and maintaining network and systems security for the US and locations across the globe. Daily responsibilities will include serving as a technical liaison and coordinator between the Core Network and Security groups, taking on various projects to improve and enhance the current infrastructure, and working on new implementation projects. These projects will involve product evaluations and testing, network designs, hands-on implementations, and performance evaluations. The engineer will spearhead various projects to evaluate and test new technologies for the infrastructure, design, implement, and configure enterprise Cisco and/or CheckPoint Firewalls, and conduct firewall management for Cisco ASA and CheckPoint R76 devices. Troubleshooting advanced network issues related to security will be a key responsibility, requiring strong routing and switching expertise with Cisco equipment. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate with Managed Services to ensure all Tier 1 support is handled appropriately and may need to work occasional nights or weekends to support system upgrades and cutovers.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an IT-related field (required).
  • 3-5+ years hands-on experience supporting & configuring Cisco PIX Firewalls.
  • 3-5+ years hands-on experience supporting & configuring CheckPoint R75-R76 Firewalls.
  • Advanced experience with VPNs.

Nice-to-haves

  • CISSP, CCSP, CEH certifications (preferred but not required).
  • CCNA/CCNP Certifications (a plus).
