About the position

The Senior Operations Engineer at Southwest Airlines plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the airline's aircraft. This position is integral to the Network Operations Planning department, where the engineer will support all aircraft performance data necessary for operational excellence. The Senior Ops Engineer is expected to be a strategic thinker, focusing on advancing procedures and enhancing safety and efficiency by leveraging technology. This role involves collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to drive impactful initiatives that align with the company's mission of connecting people through reliable and low-cost air travel. In this hybrid position based out of the Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, the Senior Ops Engineer will be required to work onsite at least three days a week. The engineer will be responsible for conveying performance information through various operational publications and ensuring that system implementations meet the aircraft performance requirements as outlined in the FAA Approved Flight Manuals. The role also includes developing software code to support operational working groups and providing support to other departments such as Dispatch, Schedule Planning, and Maintenance. The Senior Ops Engineer will be expected to maintain aircraft performance systems and supporting data, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of Southwest Airlines' operations.

Responsibilities

  • Convey performance information through Electronic Flight Bag, Dispatch flight planning system, Flight Operations Manual, Flight Reference Manual, and other Operations publications.
  • Ensure that system implementations meet the aircraft performance requirements from the manufacturer's FAA Approved Flight Manuals or other source material.
  • Facilitate transition of current Operations Engineering programming standards to future standards based on the best operational and business practices available.
  • Maintain responsibility for the development, management, and oversight of takeoff, en-route, and landing aircraft performance systems as required by FAR Part 25 and 121.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of aircraft performance data systems to support the safe and efficient operation of the airline.
  • Maintain aircraft performance systems and supporting data, including Electronic Flight Bag applications, and Dispatch flight planning system.
  • Develop software code for Flight Operations Engineering (FLOE) to support the operational working groups.
  • Provide support to other groups within the Company, including Dispatch, Schedule Planning, Maintenance, Finance, and Ground Operations in regards to aircraft performance capability and regulation.
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Advanced level experience in airline or manufacturer experience in aerodynamics and/or aircraft performance engineering.
  • Seasoned and specialized knowledge in Boeing aircraft performance tools and methods.
  • Experience in aircraft certification, flight operations, and flight dispatch.
