About the position

As a Senior Oracle Database Administrator at ManTech International Corporation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability and performance of the databases that support our systems. This position is integral to our mission of protecting national security while working on innovative projects that offer opportunities for advancement. You will be part of a diverse team dedicated to maintaining high standards of database management and support. Your responsibilities will include proactive monitoring of database systems to ensure secure services with minimal downtime, as well as assisting in providing trend analysis to the service management team. This will enable informed decisions regarding resource management and facilitate problem escalation to the development team and third parties as necessary. In this role, you will be responsible for the improvement and maintenance of databases, which includes rollouts, upgrades, implementations, and the release of database changes as required. You will work closely with the team to ensure that associated hardware resources are allocated effectively to the databases, ensuring high availability and optimum performance. Your tasks will involve providing data management support across multiple applications, and you will be expected to deliver 24/7 support of production database services to uphold the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security, and performance. You will also engage in administration with PL/SQL work, develop and administer Oracle databases, and perform performance monitoring, reporting, and tuning of Oracle databases. Your expertise will be essential in managing and maintaining backup and recovery procedures, as well as the installation and maintenance of database servers, replication, and client environments. You will review and tune SQL and PL/SQL code, assist in designing database packages and procedures, and provide support to the development team in the design, development, testing, tuning, and implementation of database applications. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure availability and performance of databases that support the system.
  • Proactively monitor database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
  • Assist in providing trend analysis to the service management team for informed resource management decisions.
  • Provide problem escalation to the Development team and third parties as appropriate.
  • Improve and maintain databases including rollouts, upgrades, implementations, and release of database changes.
  • Provide data management support across multiple applications.
  • Deliver 24/7 support of production database services to ensure high standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security, and performance.
  • Administer PL/SQL work and develop Oracle databases.
  • Monitor, report, and tune performance of Oracle databases.
  • Manage and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
  • Install and maintain database server, replication, and client environments.
  • Review and tune SQL and PL/SQL code.
  • Assist with designing database packages and procedures.
  • Provide support to the development team in the design, development, testing, tuning, and implementation of database applications.
  • Create and maintain SQL queries and routines.
  • Provision development and testing environments for databases.
  • Write ad-hoc queries based on schema knowledge for reporting requirements.
  • Write and tune data ingestion procedures from external suppliers and partners using PL/SQL and SQL Loader.
  • Support complex data models and produce complex reports.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in Oracle 19c multi-layered environments with 24/7 support.
  • Working knowledge of migration to higher Oracle databases (21c).
  • Experience with large multi-tier databases (10TB or greater).
  • Knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL scripts including troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with RHEL and Linux x86-64bit multi-domain environments.
  • Limited System Admin experience.
  • Capacity to analyze technical responsibilities including Network configuration and App Servers.
  • Experience with Linux shell commands and shell scripting.
  • Experience with Oracle RMAN, Data pump Import/Export Utility, SQL*Loader.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server databases and basic functionality.
  • Oracle performance and tuning skills including server configuration and tracing facilities.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Flexible for 1st and 2nd shift availability and able to provide 24/7 support, including on-call and post-shift hours.
  • Experience with Oracle Quarterly patching and its application.
  • Good working knowledge of job scheduling and monitoring tools.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience supporting multiple teams within an organization.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to problem-solve high-pressure issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related scientific or technical discipline with 7 or more years of related professional experience (Education can be substituted for 11 years of experience).
  • Active DOD Secret clearance and ability to obtain agency suitability clearance.
