About the position

DLA Piper is seeking a skilled Paralegal to join our team, where you will play a crucial role in supporting patent litigation and related legal matters. Under the supervision of attorneys, you will perform a range of substantive case, matter, or entity-related duties. Your responsibilities will include preparing drafts of legal documents and correspondence for attorney review, compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information, and coordinating efforts between attorneys, clients, outside legal counsel, opposing legal counsel, and other parties. This position is hybrid, requiring regular in-office presence with some flexibility for work-from-home arrangements. In this role, you will support all phases of patent litigation, including discovery, trial, and appeal, and will provide lead paralegal support at trials and hearings. You will assist with the preparation for depositions, witness interviews, hearings, trials, and arbitration, which will include drafting pretrial motions, creating trial binders, and organizing trial exhibits. Additionally, you will review, organize, and maintain document databases for case tracking and discovery, managing large document collections and productions effectively. Your expertise in legal software such as Relativity and litigation technology, including eDiscovery and data rooms, will be essential as you work on document reviews and prepare privilege logs. You will also support patent litigation, patent appeals, and contested proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be expected to communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, and business professionals, producing timely and quality work while fostering positive work relationships. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Paralegal Certificate required; for California Paralegals, must meet the California Paralegal Requirements.
  • Minimum of 6 years of Paralegal experience.
  • Strong experience in patent litigation and familiarity with U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) matters.
  • Experience with Relativity databases and large firm experience is preferred.

  • Experience in patent litigation is preferred.

  • Knowledge of intellectual property rights (IPR) is beneficial.
