About the position

DLA Piper is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our team in Palo Alto, California. This position is essential in supporting attorneys in various substantive case, matter, or entity-related duties. The Senior Paralegal will be responsible for preparing drafts of legal documents and correspondence for attorney review, compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information, and coordinating efforts between attorneys, clients, outside legal counsel, and other parties. The role requires a hybrid work environment, with regular in-office presence and some flexibility for remote work. The Senior Paralegal will support all phases of patent litigation, including discovery, trial, and appeal, and will provide lead paralegal support at trials and hearings. Responsibilities include assisting with the preparation for depositions, witness interviews, hearings, trials, and arbitration, which encompasses pretrial motions, trial binders, trial exhibits, discovery requests, and responses. The role also involves reviewing, organizing, and maintaining document databases for case tracking and discovery, requiring coordination and management of large document collections and productions. Utilizing legal software such as Relativity and litigation technology, the Senior Paralegal will work on document reviews and prepare privilege logs. Additionally, the position supports patent litigation, patent appeals, and contested proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). This role is critical in ensuring that all legal processes are handled efficiently and effectively, contributing to the overall success of the firm and its clients.

Responsibilities

  • Support in all phases of patent litigation including discovery, trial, and appeal, and will include lead paralegal support at trials and hearings.
  • Assist with preparation for depositions, witness interviews, hearings, trials, and arbitration, including pretrial motions, trial binders, trial exhibits, discovery requests, and responses.
  • Review, organize, and maintain document databases for case tracking and discovery, coordinating and managing large document collections and productions.
  • Utilize legal software such as Relativity and litigation technology including eDiscovery, data rooms, and work on document reviews and prepare privilege logs.
  • Support patent litigation, patent appeals, and contested proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Paralegal Certificate required. For California Paralegals: Must meet the California Paralegal Requirements.
  • Minimum of 6 years of Paralegal experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid technical skills necessary to set-up, track and maintain matters.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with conducting fact gathering and analyzing information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Patent Litigation.
  • Strong experience in Relativity databases.
  • Experience with U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) matters.
