About the position

The Senior Patent Agent at Thermo Fisher Scientific will support the electron microscopy business within the Analytical Instruments Group. This role focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, as well as developing a robust patent portfolio and implementing risk mitigation strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with R&D teams to identify valuable intellectual property and will be responsible for managing IP processes and conducting complex analyses related to patentability and freedom-to-operate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and prosecute high-quality, commercially-relevant patent applications.
  • Work in partnership with R&D teams to identify and capture high-value IP.
  • Assess patentability and freedom-to-operate to counsel R&D and business colleagues.
  • Manage and improve IP processes including innovation tracking and monitoring competitor IP activity.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered US Patent & Trademark Office practitioner with 5+ years of experience in drafting and prosecuting valuable patents.
  • Bachelors degree in a field related to AIG technologies, such as physics or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Practical experience with charged particle detection technologies will be an asset.
  • Proven ability to perform complex IP analyses including product clearances and prior art searches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
