About the position

The Senior Payroll Analyst at UMB Bank plays a crucial role in managing full-cycle payroll operations for over 3,500 employees across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions. This position requires expertise in Workday HRIS to ensure compliance with payroll laws and company policies while collaborating with various internal departments. The role is hybrid, requiring on-site work in Kansas City and offering remote options for qualified candidates outside the area.

Responsibilities

  • Review payroll audit reports for accuracy
  • Oversee the processing of benefit payments, such as insurance, vacations, and retirement plans
  • Reconcile and process payroll information such as state-specific PTO and Sick leave adjustments for relocated employees, equity compensation, benefit deductions, and time accrual adjustments
  • Work closely with employees, payroll manager, and payroll outsourcer to resolve complex payroll matters
  • Conduct annual review and update of payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws
  • Partner closely with IT and HR teams to ensure timely review, testing, and implementation of system updates and enhancements
  • Serve as a payroll liaison with cross-functional business teams to translate complex business needs into effective design recommendations and system analysis
  • Function as a subject matter expert for payroll-related projects and implementations
  • Research and resolve day-to-day Workday US Payroll, Time and Attendance, and Absence Management issues
  • Perform routine reporting audits and respond to reporting requests and ad hoc reporting needs
  • Create and update learning guides and hold training sessions with Workday users
  • Serve as the primary backup for payroll tax reconciliation and timely filing of applicable payroll taxes and related tax returns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field
  • At least 3 years of payroll experience within Workday or equivalent education and experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Workday payroll, specifically Payroll, Time & Labor, and Absence Management modules
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel for financial analysis and report preparation
  • Ability and willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and skills
  • Strong communication skills to understand and address employee payroll issues effectively.
