About the position

Super Micro Computer, Inc. is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team at our headquarters in San Jose, CA. This role is crucial in ensuring that our payroll expenses are accurately recorded and processed in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and organizational skills, with a methodical approach to payroll administration. You will report directly to the Senior Payroll Manager and will be responsible for reconciling payroll accounts on a monthly basis, ensuring that all financial records are accurate and compliant with company policies and regulations. In this position, you will prepare all payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations, resolving any discrepancies that may arise. You will also support external financial audits as needed and document procedures related to payroll processing and account reconciliations. Maintaining the Kronos database and performing regular audits of timecards and accruals will be part of your responsibilities. A general understanding of payroll-related terms, such as garnishments, benefits, leave of absence, 401k, FSA, and taxes, is essential. Additionally, you will be the point of contact for employee inquiries regarding payroll, ensuring that all questions are addressed promptly and accurately. This role requires a candidate who is flexible and adaptable, able to thrive in high-stress situations while quickly learning new technologies and methodologies. Attention to detail is paramount, as is a results-oriented mindset that encourages collaboration across various departments. The successful candidate will take ownership of their work, lead by example, and champion new initiatives within the payroll function.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all payroll related journal entries.
  • Prepare all payroll related reconciliations timely to ensure all GL entries have properly been recorded.
  • Resolve discrepancies found in reconciliations.
  • Support external financial audit as requested.
  • Document procedures relating to preparing and uploading journal entries.
  • Document procedures relating to account reconciliations.
  • Maintain Kronos database.
  • Perform regular audits of Kronos timecards, accruals, etc.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll.
  • Scan payroll documents as needed.
  • Handle ad hoc requests related to payroll reporting from payroll, accounting, stock plan administration, HR, and other functional groups.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of preparing journal entries and account reconciliations using SAP.
  • Recent public company experience with a similar size of SMC in the US (2,500+ people organization).
  • Strong people skills required.
  • Experience with SAP required.
  • Experience with Kronos (UKG) desired.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet time sensitive deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with payroll compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of additional payroll software or systems.
