About the position

The Sr Payroll Specialist is responsible for leading the daily, biweekly, and special payroll processes for a multi-state payroll system, catering to both non-exempt and exempt employees. This role involves processing payroll for over 500 employees, ensuring accuracy through thorough audits, and maintaining personnel data within the payroll system. The position also includes mentoring payroll specialists and providing support to managers and employees regarding payroll-related inquiries and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for 500+ employees.
  • Reconcile and perform thorough payroll audits prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
  • Accurately update and maintain personnel data in the payroll system.
  • Maintain payroll control records/documentation.
  • Provide guidance to the team on payroll best practices, payroll processing, system issues, and general troubleshooting in payroll.
  • Assist with mentoring the payroll specialists and serve as a backup for their duties.
  • Work with the team to research and positively respond to employee inquiries.
  • Escalate payroll items as required.
  • Prepare and audit complex payroll transactions and reporting requests.
  • Perform adhoc projects as needed.
  • Assist in month/quarter/year-end close.
  • Serve as a content expert for payroll functions.
  • Provide support to managers and employees with Workday's time tracking and absence modules, and the payroll employee self-service module.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years payroll experience.
  • Proficiency with multiple payroll systems including ADP EV6, Workday, UKG, and Dayforce preferred.
  • Proven payroll experience with 1000+ employee, multi-FEIN, multi-state, and localities.
  • Advanced in Excel (lookups, pivot tables, and formulas).
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions/conduct.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wage and hour laws, garnishment laws, and taxability of wages.
