About the position

The position involves performing specialized accounting functions and recommending or implementing solutions to various accounting problems. The individual will coordinate the preparation of data, computer input, account control, adjustments, corrections, and the reporting of financial data. This role primarily supports disbursements, including accounts payable and payroll, and requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices. Key responsibilities include preparing journal entries, reconciling account balances with appropriate records, and conducting special investigations to compile accounting data for specific activities. The individual will also coordinate or perform the accumulation, analysis, and distribution of accounting data, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and Department of Energy (DOE) orders. The role requires effective liaison activities with accounting management and both internal and external customers, investigating problems and implementing corrective actions as necessary. Additionally, the position involves training personnel in various accounting routines and procedures, analyzing financial system output, and initiating corrections as required. The employee will perform, review, and analyze a variety of financial-related calculations and may be required to conduct other duties as needed. Responsibilities

  • Perform accounting services with primary support in Disbursements (Accounts Payable, Payroll).
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile account balances with appropriate records.
  • Conduct special investigations and compile accounting data for specific activities.
  • Coordinate or perform the accumulation, analysis, and distribution of accounting data.
  • Coordinate accounting methods and recommend/implement improvements in departmental procedures.
  • Perform liaison activities with accounting management, internal and external customers.
  • Investigate problems and implement corrective action.
  • Review and analyze accounting data for compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and DOE orders.
  • Assist in training personnel in various accounting routines and procedures.
  • Analyze financial system output and initiate corrections as required.
  • Perform, review, and analyze a variety of financial-related calculations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner according to established HS&E requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • BS Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience or 2 years of additional relevant experience is required.
  • BS degree in accounting preferred.
  • Additional college courses in accounting or 4 1/2 years in a lower-level accounting position is also preferred.
  • Experience with running a high volume payroll (> 3,000 employees).
  • Proficiency in computer software; ability to quickly analyze complex financial information and initiate/recommend appropriate actions.
