About the position

The Sr. Pharmacy Buyer at the University of Miami is responsible for managing the 340B drug discount program, overseeing drug purchasing, inventory processes, and ensuring compliance with program requirements. This role involves collaboration with pharmacy leadership to achieve organizational goals and maintain high-quality services and products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage drug selection, procurement, inventory control, and coordinate 340B program
  • Maintain pharmacy and 340B system database to reflect changes in the drug formulary or product specifications
  • Purchase all pharmaceuticals for the assigned facilities
  • Manage purchasing, receiving and inventory control processes
  • Continuously monitor product min/max levels to effectively balance product availability and cost efficient inventory control
  • Assist with quarterly 340B audits or assist with these audits if performed by compliance/internal audit
  • Perform biannual inventory and monthly cycle counts
  • Assure compliance with the 340B program requirements of qualified patients, drugs and locations
  • Ensure maximum utilization of 340B pricing through full participation in all qualified areas
  • Review and refine monthly 340B cost savings report detailing purchasing and dispensing patterns
  • Coordinate 340B procurement/reporting processes with non-pharmacy departments as necessary
  • Monitor ordering processes, integrating most current pricing from wholesaler
  • Analyze invoices, shipping and inventory processes
  • Work collaboratively with managers, professionals and technical staff within and outside of the organization
  • Validate 340B qualifications in conjunction with finance and the 340B managers
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pharmacy Buyer and/or Pharmacy Management
  • Ensure oversight of the Assistant Buyer
  • Keep abreast of contract changes and prepare vendor shipment returns
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of drugs and supplies while staying within established budgets
  • Coordinate disposal of all expired medications
  • Prepare department for annual inventory, including updating shelf labels and databases
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Communicate shortages of medication or changes in medication stock availability
  • Maintain invoicing for all drug and supply accounts
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
