About the position

The Sr Phlebotomist at CSL Plasma is responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma through venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FDA guidelines. This role involves ensuring donor safety and product quality while providing a positive donation experience. The position requires technical skills in troubleshooting equipment and maintaining accurate donor records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Conduct venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Educate new donors about therapeutic products made from donated plasma and explain the screening process and center policies.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance of equipment as outlined in SOPs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation.
  • Monitor donor flow on the donor floor and alert supervisors of any issues.
  • Provide guidance and technical training to donor floor staff as required.
  • Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understand policies related to hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum eighteen (18) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred.
