About the position

As a Platform Software Engineer at Medtronic, you will be part of a world-class team responsible for the development and enhancement of the Robotic Assisted Surgery platform. This role involves collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to drive innovation in surgical technology, ensuring that the software meets the highest standards of quality and performance. You will work in a fast-paced environment, engaging in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements definition to system verification and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in software development efforts within the Software Center of Excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and design software solutions.
  • Implement code, conduct unit tests, and perform software and system verification and validation.
  • Engage in troubleshooting and debugging in a complex multi-processor mixed OS environment.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative software solutions for robotic-assisted surgery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in developing and commercializing software products in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Hands-on development and troubleshooting experience using modern C++ 11 or greater.
  • Understanding of operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and QNX, including drivers and interfaces.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and best practices in the medical device industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in object-oriented design and design patterns.
  • Familiarity with relevant scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum/SAFe software development practices.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and secure OS/application design.
  • Experience with risk management analysis of software using SW FMEA techniques.
