About the position

As a Senior Platform/Embedded Software Engineer at Medtronic, you will be part of a world-class team focused on the development and enhancement of the Robotic Assisted Surgery platform. This role involves leading software development efforts within the Surgical Operations Organization, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements, design, implement code, and conduct software verification and validation. You will work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to innovative medical technology that aims to alleviate pain and restore health.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in software development efforts for the Robotic Assisted Surgery platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and design software solutions.
  • Implement code and conduct unit testing for software components.
  • Perform software and system verification and validation to ensure compliance with medical device standards.
  • Engage in troubleshooting and debugging of software in a complex multi-processor environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in developing and commercializing software products in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Hands-on development and troubleshooting experience using modern C++ (C++11 or greater).
  • Familiarity with object-oriented design and design patterns.
  • Experience with relevant scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of operating systems like Windows, Linux, and QNX, including drivers and interfaces.
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and best practices in the medical device industry.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum/SAFe software development practices.
  • Experience with Transport layer communications protocols and related network experience.
  • Cybersecurity experience in designing and maintaining secure operating systems and applications.
