About the position

The Sr PM - Sustainability Execution Planning role at Amazon is a leadership position within the Global Engineering Services Sustainability and Automation team. The successful candidate will oversee the execution planning, communication, and tracking of sustainability initiatives aimed at driving decarbonization, energy efficiency, and resource positivity across various business units. This role combines technical construction engineering, program planning, project management, and contract management, requiring a strong background in sustainability practices and construction knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Directly or indirectly lead a team of Sustainable Execution Planning Program Managers across Operations Business Units focused on New Build and Retrofit Sustainability programs.
  • Work with stakeholder teams to develop, prioritize, and create execution plans for Sustainability initiatives in New Launches and retrofits of existing buildings.
  • Drive the construction ideation, scoping, and design phase of new sustainability retrofit programs and inclusions into new buildings.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Design Standards and coordinate technical reviews with relevant teams.
  • Support Construction Managers as a Subject Matter Expert on Sustainability initiative implementation and tracking.
  • Redevelop and launch the Sustainability Initiative intake mechanism to convert new initiatives into executable projects.
  • Support lease renewals by driving landlord contributions for energy efficiency-focused retrofit enhancements.
  • Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for Sustainability inclusions and retrofits to reduce energy consumption.
  • Track carbon footprint of new launches and perform engineering calculations for design comparisons.
  • Maintain a program-level view to drive decisions while remaining informed about site-level progress.
  • Provide visibility to leadership in challenging situations regarding tradeoffs.
  • Liaise with the Project Management Office for budget/labor planning and risk reporting.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses for Sustainability inclusions.
  • Survey facilities, develop procedures to audit, and recommend energy-saving solutions.
  • Evaluate embodied and operational carbon of building designs and implement reduction strategies.
  • Serve as sustainability SME for stakeholders and communicate with construction teams.
  • Manage contractors and consultants for carbon modeling and energy-efficiency studies.
  • Liaise with permitting authorities to support Sustainability inclusions.
  • Facilitate partnerships with stakeholder teams on due diligence evaluations.
  • Establish information systems to track progress of Sustainability inclusions across programs.
  • Collect lessons learned and coach team members on best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience.
  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
  • Experience owning program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership.
  • Experience in stakeholder management with multiple stakeholders at varied levels.
  • Experience building processes, project management, and schedules.
  • Ability to deliver in ambiguity and work autonomously in an agile environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and drive agreement on complex topics.
  • Experience delivering results in large, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of driving process improvements experience.
  • Master's degree or MBA in business, operations, or related field.
  • LEED Accredited Professional, PE, CEM, LFA, or other building professional accreditation.
  • Experience reading and interpreting building engineering drawings.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated sustainable building project experience.
  • Green building experience with demonstrated industry-leading sustainability design and construction.
