About the position

The Sr. Postgres DBA position is a remote role focused on managing PostgreSQL databases within an enterprise-class environment. The role requires extensive experience in database management, particularly in Linux and Amazon RDS, and involves responsibilities such as performance tuning, security implementation, and lifecycle support of database systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage PostgreSQL databases in a Linux environment.
• Implement and manage Amazon RDS, including migrations and deployments.
• Craft shell scripts using Linux and Python for automation.
• Design and optimize database schemas, tables, indexes, and queries for performance and scalability.
• Implement robust backup and recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery and disaster recovery planning.
• Monitor and manage database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
• Configure and run high availability solutions such as replication.
• Implement database security best practices, including access control and compliance standards.
• Perform database capacity planning and trend analysis.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including developers and system administrators.
• Build high-quality documentation, including database designs and troubleshooting guides.
• Deliver training and mentoring to other Database Administrators.
• Provide on-call rotational 24/7 incident response to database alerts.

Requirements

• 10 or more years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases.
• In-depth knowledge of Postgres utilities.
• Experience managing Amazon RDS implementations.
• Familiarity with managing versions and deployments in RDS and on-premise servers.
• Experience crafting shell scripts in Linux and Python.
• Experience in implementing various monitoring tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with database benchmarking statistics.
• Experience with performance tuning and security in database management.
