About the position

The Senior Principal Cyber Systems Engineer (C/SSE) position at Northrop Grumman focuses on providing technical excellence for a Space Segment program. The role involves architecting, designing, and building security features into space segment subsystems, components, and flight software. The CSSE is responsible for Cyber CDRL development and must demonstrate strong technical qualifications, including the ability to communicate effectively. This position requires independent work as a subject matter expert in a structured engineering environment, ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures throughout the system development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and build security features into space segment subsystems and flight software.
  • Develop Cyber CDRLs to document the security design of the new system.
  • Decompose system-level security requirements and allocate Cyber/SSE requirements to specifications.
  • Support technical presentations during engineering milestone reviews, ensuring timely delivery of CDRLs.
  • Prepare and coordinate Interconnection Security Agreements (ISAs) as necessary.
  • Lead the development of program CDRLs including RMF SSP, Key & Certificate Management Plan, and Cybersecurity Strategy.
  • Execute DISA STIG checks for embedded environments and develop security control verification procedures.
  • Ensure systems are operated and maintained according to security policies before delivery to the customer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with 9 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 7 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • 9 years of IT security/Cybersecurity experience in support of USG programs.
  • 5 years of technical leadership experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance at the time of application.
  • CISSP Certification.
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes and milestones.

Nice-to-haves

  • 9 years of Cyber/SSE experience in the Defense Aerospace Industry.
  • 5 years of experience working within restricted program areas.
  • Demonstrated engineering experience participating in Systems Engineering milestone reviews as the primary author of Cyber CDRLs.
