About the position

The Sr. Process Chemical Engineer in Production Design at Rivian plays a crucial role in the Facilities Production Design team, which is responsible for the design and engineering support of Rivian's production facilities. This position focuses on the design, specification, and execution of chemical and mechanical process systems used in vehicle production, ensuring innovative and cost-efficient solutions to complex engineering challenges. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality projects that align with Rivian's mission of sustainability and adventure.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer chemical and mechanical process systems for vehicle production, including compressed air, nitrogen, DI/RO water, and process water.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional disciplines and external stakeholders to support production processes.
  • Solve complex technical problems and deliver technical projects effectively.
  • Lead basic and detailed design engineering activities for assigned projects.
  • Prepare and review H&MBs, PFD's, P&ID's, process equipment/instrument datasheets, and project specifications.
  • Oversee the installation of equipment to ensure adherence to contract documents.
  • Develop design standards for new projects and facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or related discipline) with 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver technical projects.
  • Knowledge of building design, coordination, and delivery.
  • Ability to expand concepts beyond the project level and drive impact across a portfolio.
  • Experience working with cross-functional disciplines, including external stakeholders and clients.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in BIM and other CAD environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in a field of study relating to the built environment.
  • Experience with applying sustainability principles to work.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or similarly recognized professional certification).
  • Experience with modeling incompressible and compressible fluid networks and their associated mechanical drivers (i.e., fans, pumps, etc.).
