About the position

The Sr. Process Chemical Engineer in Production Design at Rivian plays a crucial role in the Facilities Production Design team, which is responsible for the design and engineering support of Rivian's production facilities. This position involves overseeing the design and construction quality of production systems, ensuring innovative and cost-efficient solutions are delivered to complex engineering challenges. The engineer will work collaboratively with a diverse team to enhance vehicle production processes and contribute to Rivian's mission of creating emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Design, specify, and execute chemical/mechanical process systems used in vehicle production, including compressed air, nitrogen, DI/RO water, and process water.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional disciplines and external stakeholders on production processes.
  • Solve complex problems and deliver technical projects effectively.
  • Apply knowledge of thermodynamics and transport phenomena in equipment sizing and rating requirements.
  • Lead basic and detailed design engineering activities for assigned projects.
  • Prepare and review H&MBs, PFD's, P&ID's, process equipment/instrument datasheets, and project specifications.
  • Oversee the installation of equipment to ensure adherence to contract documents.
  • Develop design standards for new projects and facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or related discipline) with 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver technical projects.
  • Knowledge of building design, coordination, and delivery.
  • Ability to expand concepts beyond the project level and drive impact across a portfolio.
  • Experience working with cross-functional disciplines, including external stakeholders and clients.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in BIM and other CAD environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in a field of study relating to the built environment.
  • Experience with applying sustainability principles to work.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or similarly recognized professional certification).
  • Experience with modeling incompressible and compressible fluid networks and their associated mechanical drivers.
